31 Days of Halloween 2012 - Day 21: Black Widow Fascinator Tutorial

Although this one doesn't have a spider like yesterday's post, it just reminds me of something that a woman who's been through 4 husbands would wear to a funeral.  Okay, not really.  I think it's much cuter than that, but I wasn't quite sure what to call it.  So, if you have any better ideas, let me know :D

This one's actually pretty simple.  Here's how you do it:

Supplies:

Black metal headband
hot glue and gluegun
black felt
floral wire
a small rectangle of black French (or Russian) veiling.
black thread and needle

Following the instructions for a felt bow from Day 3, make a black felt bow.  But with this one, we're going to use floral wire instead and attach tails to the back.

To make the tails, cut a strip of felt the same width as your bow and to the desired length.  Fold the ends in half and cut at an angle so that when you open it up, it looks forked.  Wrap floral wire around both the bow and the tail.

Hot glue the center and sides to the headband, as well as the undersides of the bow to the tail.

Make your veil.  Cut a rectangle from 8" veiling (which can now be found at Joann's - YAY!).  Take your needle and thread and weave it up and down all the way around, up one side, across the top, and down the other side.  Gather and tie off in a knot.

Hot glue the center to the same spot you glued the bow on the headband, but from the underside.  Fan out and glue the sides similarly.

Cut a thin strip of felt and glue along the glue lines to cover them up and protect the hair.

You're done!!
