31 Days of Halloween 2012 - Day 7: Kids Legwarmers from Socks

I've done this several times before for my kids and they're always super cute and easy to make.  You can do them for any season or occasion, too, which is always a plus.  Here we go:

First, find a cute pair of knee-high socks that you like (if you're doing this for a toddler, use child-size socks. If for a child, use adult size socks.)  I got these at Joann's on sale for $1.99.

Cut the sock right above the heel, straight across.  You will be left with 2 long tubes and 2 foot sections.  Set the foot sections aside for Day 8's project - kids' cuff bracelet from sock.

Fold the raw edge under and pin.

Using a stretch stitch on your machine (or you could use a zig zag stitch - you have to do something that will "give" a little bit so the thread doesn't rip), sew a hem around the bottom.  Because of the width of the sock and the arm on your machine (even with the major part taken off), you may still have some stretching - but this will just give it a cute, kind of flared look to it.

Repeat with the other legwarmer.  Trim all strings, and you're ready to enjoy!

***I fully recognize that any amount of intelligence or creativity I have is a gift from God.  What I have been freely given, I freely give.  But if you choose to use these tutorials to sell items from, I would ask that you consider joining the Let Justice Flow Initiative, where you commit to donating either 10% of the total purchase price of each item, or designate a specific item for sale where the entire purchase price is donated to an organization that helps fight injustices around the world.  There are specific groups listed to give you an idea on the LJF page.  And feel free to snag the LJF button and put it on your page or etsy site.  Thanks!!***
